Having a Plan B: Why thinking differently matters in both business and life

Sometimes the best lessons come when you're least expecting them! I recently enjoyed a wonderful family day out at The Patch MK with my grandchildren, Freddie and Flo, and it got me thinking about the importance of having a Plan B, both in business and in life ...
Having a Plan B: thinking differently helps you adapt, much like the working farm that created The Patch MK
Having a Plan B isn't about expecting things to go wrong. It's about recognising opportunities, being open to change and finding new ways to move forward. The Patch MK is a brilliant example. Since 2019, they've transformed a working farm into one of the UK's largest pumpkin-picking attractions, creating something that brings joy to thousands of visitors while supporting the business.
And what a fantastic experience it was!
Pumpkins were everywhere, with marshmallows to toast over the fire (my favourite), digger rides, games, duck races, and even axe throwing. Freddie and Flo looked adorable in their pumpkin-picking sweatshirts, although the chilly weather reminded me that glove season is almost here.
But beyond the pumpkins and family fun, something really resonated with me. They saw an opportunity to do something different and embraced it. And isn't that something we can all learn from?
In business, this might mean exploring a new direction, adapting what you offer, or finding creative ways to use the resources you already have. In life, it might mean reconsidering your career, learning a new skill, following a passion, or recognising that the path you're on isn't the only one available. We can get so focused on our original plans that we forget other possibilities exist.
So, whether you're building a business, navigating a career change, thinking about additional income or side hustles, remember that having a Plan B isn't a sign of uncertainty. It shows you're willing to explore what's possible.
What opportunities might open up if you gave yourself permission to think differently?
Until next time ...

I’ve always believed life is too short to sit still and wait for “someday.” From travelling the world in my twenties to taking on challenges like long-distance coastal walks, I’ve built a life around adventure, freedom, and making the most of every opportunity that comes my way.
After becoming a mum, I wanted a way to be present for my family while still creating an income and future for myself. That led me to build a flexible, residual income business that fits around real life - not the other way round. Today, I help others do the same, showing them how to reduce their bills and create more choice with their time.
For me, it’s not just about money - it’s about freedom. Freedom to travel, take on new challenges, and be there for the moments that matter most. If you’re looking for a way to create more flexibility, more income, and more life in your days, you’re in the right place.
Have you ever stopped to think about what you'd really like your life to look like a year from now? Not just the things you need to get done next week, but the bigger picture. More freedom, more adventures, more time with the...
