The importance of making time for friends and family when life gets busy

Close your laptop and step away from your desk. Making time for friends and family is crucial!
When you're building a business, developing multiple income streams, or simply juggling everything life throws at you, making time for friends and family can easily slip down the list. There's always another email to answer, another opportunity to explore, or another job to finish before you stop for the day.
But there's a danger in being busy all the time!
You can become so focused on creating the life you want tomorrow that you forget to enjoy the life you have today. That's why I think making time for friends and family needs to be something we actively choose to do.
Put that lunch in the diary. Arrange the barbecue. Go for the walk. Plan the picnic. There will almost certainly still be work waiting for you when you get back!
It doesn't have to be a huge occasion either. Some of our most valuable experiences come from ordinary afternoons spent talking, laughing and enjoying each other's company. Making time for friends and family isn't time taken away from being productive. I'd argue that it's an important part of having a balanced and fulfilling life.
And sometimes, of course, things don't go according to plan!
Now that summer is coming to an end, there's always a good chance of rain. Someone could be late, or the venue you picked could be closed, and you need to find somewhere else quickly. That's okay. Our garden picnic certainly wasn't what we'd originally imagined, but we adapted and had a brilliant afternoon anyway.
There will always be more work waiting, another task on the list and another goal we want to reach. But the opportunities to make memories with the people we care about won't always wait for us.
Making time for friends and family sometimes means closing the laptop, stepping away from the desk and simply enjoying being together. The work will still be there when we get back, but those moments are far too valuable to keep putting off.
And remember to enjoy the experiences we're working so hard to have.
