Networking is about building relationships, not just getting referrals - a key factor for long-term success in business

Events like these always remind me why networking has played such an important role in building my business. For me, networking has never been about collecting business cards or trying to sell to everyone in the room. It's about building genuine relationships with people who share similar values, ambitions and a positive outlook on life.

Over the years, many of the opportunities I've enjoyed have
come from conversations rather than sales pitches!

When you take the time to get to know people, understand what they do, and look for ways you can support one another, amazing things can happen. Those conversations often grow into trusted partnerships, referrals, collaborations, and even long-term friendships. Business becomes far more enjoyable when you're working with people you genuinely like and respect.

I'm also a huge believer in the power of joint ventures. None of us has every skill or every client, but together we can create opportunities that benefit everyone involved.

Whether it's introducing two people who would work brilliantly together, collaborating on a project, or recommending someone's services with confidence, those relationships create value that extends far beyond a single transaction.

One of the biggest lessons I've learned is to be intentional
about the people I surround myself with!

I want to spend time with people who inspire me, challenge me to think bigger, and encourage me to keep growing. Positive energy is contagious, and being part of supportive communities helps us all achieve more than we ever could on our own.

If you've been wondering whether networking is worth your time, my answer is a wholehearted yes. Focus on building authentic relationships, be generous with your support, stay curious about other people's journeys, and don't be afraid to collaborate.

You never know where one conversation might lead.

Until next time ...

About Davina Farrer ...

Davina Farrer

I’ve always believed life is too short to sit still and wait for “someday.” From travelling the world in my twenties to taking on challenges like long-distance coastal walks, I’ve built a life around adventure, freedom, and making the most of every opportunity that comes my way.

After becoming a mum, I wanted a way to be present for my family while still creating an income and future for myself. That led me to build a flexible, residual income business that fits around real life - not the other way round. Today, I help others do the same, showing them how to reduce their bills and create more choice with their time.

For me, it’s not just about money - it’s about freedom. Freedom to travel, take on new challenges, and be there for the moments that matter most. If you’re looking for a way to create more flexibility, more income, and more life in your days, you’re in the right place.
